Renée Grünberg’in ardından…

Notre Dame De Sion Lisesi’nde 40 yıl süreyle Fransızca  öğretmenliği yapan Renée Grünberg geçtiğimiz hafta hayata gözlerini yumdu. Gazetemiz yazarı
Karel Franco Valansi, bir dönem öğretmeni olan Mademoiselle Renée’yi anlattı…

Her sonbahar okullar açıldığında okulumuzda iki dedikodu dolaşırdı. Notre Dame de Sion Saint Joseph ile birleşecek, karma eğitime geçilecek ve Mademoiselle Renée emekli olacak. Mademoiselle Renée’nin derslerinden hem korkulur, hem de o dersi almayan tam Dame de Sion’lu olmaz denirdi. Hazırlık 1’den itibaren korku ve merakla bekledik sıramızın gelmesini. Bugün ne kadar şanslıyım diyorum, son yıllarına yetişebildim ve ondan Fransızca öğrenebildim. Ne kadar zor beğendiğini, onun takdirini alabilmek için ne kadar uğraştığımı, kaç defa yeniden ve yeniden yazdığımı çok iyi hatırlıyorum. Bu yazımı okuyabilse eminim düzeltecek, güzelleştirecek önerileri olurdu.
Sert mizacı altında ne kadar sevecen olduğunu da, herkesle ne kadar ilgilendiğini de biliyorum ve o zamanlar bana verdiği öğütlere uymaya çalışıyorum. Masasından hiç ayırmadığı “Grand-pere Larousse” ve koridorda kapı tokmağı ile dolaşması aklımda kalan sahneler. “La bavarde (geveze) gel yanıma, ne anlatıyorsan dinleyeyim” ise benim en çok duyduğum cümlesiydi.
Okulumuzun Fransızca eğitim kalitesini yükseltmiş, tam 40 yıl öğretmenlik yapmış olağanüstü zekâya sahip biriydi Mademoiselle Renée. Geçtiğimiz cuma günü “bir çınar devrildi” diye geldi ölüm haberi. Gerçekten de hiç devrilmeyecek, okula gitsem koridorlarında ona rastlayacakmışım gibi düşündüm hep. Keşke ziyaret etseydim…

Panorama Asks: The NATO Summit in Ankara

On 7-8 July 2026, NATO’s heads of state and government met in Ankara for the Alliance’s 36th summit. It was the second time Türkiye has hosted this gathering since Istanbul in 2004. The summit came at a difficult moment for the Alliance: a fifth year of war in Ukraine, growing pressure on European allies to turn defense-spending pledges into real industrial capacity, and continuing uncertainty over Washington’s long-term commitment to European security. Cem Habib  We talked about how the peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates affected the Jewish life in the Emirates, with the investment manager Cem Habib, who has been living in Dubai since 2016, and who is one of the founding members of the Jewish Council of Emirates (JCE), the first officially recognized Jewish community of the UAE. How long have you been living in Dubai? What influenced you in deciding to live here? I moved to Dubai in 2016, before I had been living in London.
