Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Faruk Kaymakçı commemorated the millions of Jews who were massacred by the Nazis during the Holocaust. He mentioned the fact that antisemitism, racism and xenophobia are still in the rise in the world and it is very worrying. He continued his speech saying that the Holocaust is the best example of what ethnic and religious hatred can lead to when it is not addressed properly.
Ishak Ibrahimzadeh, the co-president of the Turkish Jewish Community, stated in his speech that the hatred that created the Holocaust 70 years ago, can still be felt today in different ways. Ibrahimzadeh said that all of the sufferings were sacred and that discrimination and hate crimes could only be overcome by love, rule of law and education.
During the ceremony, a documentary prepared with the support of the Foreign Ministry is screened. The documentary explains Lina Amato’s life by her own words. She survived the Holocaust thanks to Turkey's Consul in Rhodes Selahattin Ulkumen. A video presentation of Izzet Keribar’s photos of Auschwitz death camp was screened too. Following the music concert and lyric dance performed by academicians and students of Ankara University, the ceremony ended with the candle lighting ceremony in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

“We are Beyond What I Had Dreamed of When I Moved to Dubai”

Cem Habib  We talked about how the peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates affected the Jewish life in the Emirates, with the investment manager Cem Habib, who has been living in Dubai since 2016, and who is one of the founding members of the Jewish Council of Emirates (JCE), the first officially recognized Jewish community of the UAE. How long have you been living in Dubai? What influenced you in deciding to live here? I moved to Dubai in 2016, before I had been living in London. My customer base at that time was in Kazakhstan and it had gotten harder commuting there from London every month after 6 years. There were three direct flights between Dubai and Kazakhstan, every day, with a flight time of less than 4 hours. To improve our quality of life and to spend more time with the kids, we moved to Dubai. When moving, how could you overcome the thought “As a Jew, will I be comfortable living in an Arab country with my family?” I talked to my friends from different countri

Kadir Has Üniversitesi Uluslararası İlişkiler Öğretim Üyesi Doç.

Shai Cohen: “Israel is more than willing to facilitate the life of the civil population in the Gaza strip”

Since the press leak during the Zurick meeting we are discussing the Turkish-Israeli reconciliation. I wanted to ask Shai Cohen, the Consul General of Israel in Istanbul, about the latest developments in the region as well as the reasons and outcomes of these negotiations. I want to thank him especially as I know he does not talk to any journalists right now and accepted my request Karel Valansi Since the press leak during the Zurich meeting, we are discussing the reasons and possible outcomes of Turkish-Israeli reconciliation. In what stage are the negotiations? The Zurich meeting has anchored three Turkish conditions which are the apology, the compensation and the Gaza issue. According to some reports in the media, which I cannot confirm, there are Israeli conditions which is the condition of withdrawal of lawsuits that have to do with the Mavi Marmara incident. The condition that is already met by Israel more than two years ago is the apology. Regarding the compensatio
