Mirar ma no ver

Mirar ma no ver

“We are Beyond What I Had Dreamed of When I Moved to Dubai”

Cem Habib  We talked about how the peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates affected the Jewish life in the Emirates, with the investment manager Cem Habib, who has been living in Dubai since 2016, and who is one of the founding members of the Jewish Council of Emirates (JCE), the first officially recognized Jewish community of the UAE. How long have you been living in Dubai? What influenced you in deciding to live here? I moved to Dubai in 2016, before I had been living in London. My customer base at that time was in Kazakhstan and it had gotten harder commuting there from London every month after 6 years. There were three direct flights between Dubai and Kazakhstan, every day, with a flight time of less than 4 hours. To improve our quality of life and to spend more time with the kids, we moved to Dubai. When moving, how could you overcome the thought “As a Jew, will I be comfortable living in an Arab country with my family?” I talked to my friends from different cou...

Network society in the information age

Our world has been in a process of transformation with the new technological paradigm, based on information and communication technologies. This structural transformation deeply affects the social composition of societies. As the world becomes smaller, informative and communicative technology creates a new form of society based on networking. Today we are connected to the outer world as never before. Manuel Castells, professor emeritus of sociology at the University of California, Berkeley, explains social transformation in society with the term "The Network Society." In his book "The Network Society: From Knowledge to Policy," he argues that society determines the use of technology according to its needs. Additionally, the internet is ample evidence that technology created a new form of social organization based on networking. This novelty changed the patterns and dynamics of the new reality we live in and it has consequences on policymaking, economy, and organi...

Ontological Insecurity and Emotional Governance in Turkish Foreign Policy

Ontological Insecurity and Emotional Governance in Turkish Foreign Policy Karel Franco Valansi & Erman Ermihan https://www.globacademy.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/GA-Reports-Ontological-Insecurity-and-Emotional-Governance-in-Turkish-Foreign-Policy.pdf  February 2026 Abstract This paper examines how ontological insecurity and emotional governance shape Turkish foreign policy behavior under the Justice and Development Party (AKP). Moving beyond rationalist assumptions, it argues that Türkiye’s assertive and often reactive diplomacy reflects a struggle for a stable self-identity amid shifting regional hierarchies and perceived external threats. Emotional narratives—particularly pride, humiliation, and resentment—play a central role in legitimizing foreign policy decisions and framing Türkiye’s relations with the West, the Middle East, and domestic audiences. Understanding this emotional-ontological nexus offers crucial insights into Türkiye’s sometimes unpredictable foreign pol...
